Exploring The Dark Side Of Hypnosis

Pretty much everything you encounter has a "dark" side, whether that's obvious or not. Which means there is a dark side to hypnosis.

Scaremongering news stories aside, the dark side of hypnosis is often called "underground" or "black ops" hypnosis. Or sometimes it's given a completely different name, such as "speed seduction".

Whatever it's called, you can be sure it exists.

If you practice hypnosis on people, you should always be ethical. Partly for the sake of the people you're hypnotizing and partly for your own sake. But that doesn't mean you can't use some of the "darker" elements of hypnosis on other people. Just be certain you're totally ethical about them.

Quite often, "dark" hypnosis is used when your subject isn't placed into a hypnotic trance before you start using hypnotic techniques on them. From your subject's point of view, you're just having a normal conversation with them. From your point of view, you're putting a number of not-so-subtle commands into the conversation that your subject will likely follow.

One easy "dark hypnosis" trick is to get your subject to imagine something. Because as soon as they're asked to imagine, their conscious barriers melt away. After all, imagination is the stuff of fairy tales and they're totally innocent, aren't they?

You may even see your subject's eyes start to glaze over or notice their mind has wandered. These are both good signs that you've put them into a waking trance. Any command you embed in your sentences from that point forward will drop near enough straight into their subconscious. So be careful what you say!

Confusion is another great way of getting someone into a hypnotic trance quickly and easily. Maybe your high school math teacher was secretly hypnotizing you with all those equations? Whilst someone's mind is confused, it's trying to resolve the confusion. So, again, hypnotic commands can be embedded in your conversation and will drop through to the person's subconscious.

One good thing about dark hypnosis is that it can't be used to subvert people completely. Despite what you may have read in some of the weirder parts of the press, hypnosis can't force you to do anything you don't want to do. Sure, it may reveal things about you that you weren't totally aware of, but that's another story.

Each of us, at one point or the other, could use an extra dose of motivation.  Those of us building a businesses are no exception.  As you know, there is no easy "business in a box".   The reasons so many fail are the floundering around and losing sight of the goal, becoming frustrated and losing focus, and then giving up.  Learning to be motivated can eliminate all the above and keep us persevering towards the goal – a successful business!

Short term "sprints" towards your long term objective are the key.  No marathon runner looks at the race as a 26.2 run.  They think of the race as an accumulation of smaller sprints, with a dash for the finish at the end. 

By breaking down your objectives into smaller goals (sprints), you make them more psychologically attainable, as well as less monumental and massive.

Use your sprints to build a plan that consists of measurable activities. Write them down on a calendar. By building your plan and reviewing it regularly, you'll be able to keep your focus.

Measure and Compare

You can't improve it if you don't measure it.  You can control activities, but not the results.

Sometimes, no matter how closely you have followed your action plan, you still miss the mark. Why is this? Since your goals are a stretch for you, you can't envision the exact outcome. This is when it is important to stick to your plan. If you do and are consistent, you will eventually experience your desired growth.

Slippery Slope Of Judgement

How can it be that we look down on someone or 'think we are better than'... even for a minute? Have we walked in their shoes? Do we have even a faint idea of what life looks like from their position?

These were questions I had to ask myself, as I realized I had fallen down the slippery slope of judgment. Looking back, I can laugh. I took my lesson, learned this fundamental personal 
leadership quality and... the outcome is not one I will ever forget!

It was during my 'hippy years'. You know those days of peace, love and rock n' roll. My motto was 'live and let live' and that in itself makes my speedy ability to judge that much more ironic. Obviously it was time I learned a lesson.

Having just left a religious commune, I travelled north to visit one of my brothers. I loved him dearly and hadn't seen him for about three years. We were to enjoy a couple of wonderful days together catching up. He was an actor and I was looking forward to seeing the theater production he was acting in.

After his performance on the Saturday night we were attending a party with his fellow actors. It was the birthday of one of the women from the cast, and about 40 performers and crew members were catching up to celebrate with her.

It was a somewhat energetic group of revellers, and the Greek restaurant we descended on seemed ready for them. More prepared than I was! My life had been very low-key over the past few of years and I was pretty much a teetotller. The drinks of choice going around the table were certainly not tea. I found a seat near the end of the tables, satisfied to mostly stay out of the action.

The party gained volume and energy for a number of hours... eating, drinking, and definitely being merry, and the end of the night was drawing close. It was kind of like a last party trick when this hefty drunken actor got up and took the center of the floor. He couldn't be missed... weaving and wearing a big stupid grin planted beneath his big bald head, and making more than his share of noise. Certainly not a pretty sight. He was just steady enough to balance a tall stack of plates in one hand, while he grabbed a single one in the other. The Greek restaurant tradition of smashing plates was no doubt on the program. He started breaking down through the plates... crack, crack, crack. The ceramic fell all about him and spread around the floor from his drunken shuffle.

He had broken all but a final single plate. After a dazed look of bewilderment, an even more audacious and stupid grin broke out on his face. He quickly hoisted the plate over his head, and smash... down it came onto his naked skull. Slightly dazed and now with a crooked smile, a steady drip of blood let loose running down the side of his head.

I stared at this performance with disgust... definitely judging him and thinking he was an idiot. Even though I obviously thought I was better than him, I didn't feel good. I was ready to leave the party.

The following day my brother and I reviewed the party. He told me then that this drunken actor was one of his closest friends. He had cancer and had been undergoing chemotherapy, hence the bald head. He'd been soldiering on, determined not to let it get in the way of his career.

Even though he needed a daybed in the theatre for rests between his stage appearances, he was not giving up. The party was a chance to let off some steam, knowing he was among understanding friends.

Well... he had been mostly among friends that evening. I admitted that I was the one who had been the idiot, not him. The judgments fell away. My mind opened and I sent out compassion, acceptance, and caring. This felt like a relief. I was offering something meaningful.

It was about 10 years later that I again met with this man. I had moved to the city my brother lived in, and as they were friends, we met. Over the coming weeks we found ourselves many times at the same social outings, dinners, and opening night productions. We
found that we actually had a lot in common, and quite liked each other. In fact, we very much liked each other.

About a year and a half later, in the style of the true gentleman I had come to know he was, he asked my father if he could ask for my hand in marriage.

Certainly, I could vividly recall the event in the Greek restaurant, just as vividly as I could remember who the real idiot had been. This person was an absolute gift to me. One that I would have definitely overlooked if I had continued on blindly in judgment. Fortunately I took a chance with the belief that he was a loving human being.

Within the year we celebrated a wonderful wedding in a park in the Rockies, and the reception... no, not at a Greek restaurant!

Whenever I feel judgment creeping in, it's a great reminder for my personal development. It's time to ask what it might be hiding. What is it blinding me to? What are the treasures, if only I can see through the haze. They're there... waiting.

How Love Increases Your Ability to Manifest

A sure way of enhancing your ability to attract is to focus on the love you have for what you're wanting to manifest. Love is probably the highest vibration we know and feeling love for what you wish to create will raise your energetic resonance, pulling your target to you that much faster.

Let's say you've been experiencing a drought and you want to make it rain. Clear your mind of any negative thoughts. Focus your attention on the rain. See it falling. Smell it if you can. Hear it hitting the roof of your house or the leaves of the trees. Now focus on feelings of love. I love how the rain sounds as it hits my roof." and then feel that love. "I love the smell of a spring thunderstorm." and feel that love. "I love how the rain waters my flowers." Whatever it is about rain that you truly love, focus on that thing and then feel the emotion.

Maybe you want to attract your dream job or your dream relationship. You don't even have to know what the job is or who the person is. Simply focus your attention on what you would love about having them. "I love how it feels to get up every morning and be excited about my work day." Then feel the love. The longer you can stay in this state of love, the stronger your creativity becomes.

The next important thing is to not destroy what you've built by thinking negative thoughts. Don't spend time telling yourself how unlikely it is you'll get what you want or how long it's bound to take. It is also important not to limit the outcome by assuming it must take a particular form; this creates resistance. Be open to all possibilities and let your goal come to you however it does. Know that you've planted a creative seed and allow it to grow.

How To Use Conversational Hypnosis To Get Your Own Way

What is conversational hypnosis?

Put simply, it's the art of dropping hypnotic commands into your everyday conversations. So if I was speaking to you and was looking to get you to think about doing something, I might say "You don't want to do that". Our mind crosses out the word "don't" so the embedded command is actually that you want to do that. Whatever "that" is.

You're almost certainly using conversational hypnosis already. But you likely don't know it. If you've ever told someone that they're useless at some topic or other, you've given them a hypnotic command that's going to happen.

So, next time do as your {mother|father} probably told you: engage your brain before you speak!

Don't use huge long pauses between each word or else everyone you're speaking to will think you're a dunce. Just long enough for you to be able to tweak what you're saying so that it has the most effect on the other person's subconscious.

Practice.

No-one is going to tell you off for getting it "wrong". If you're subtle enough, the message will get through under the other person's radar.

Anger Management: 5 Really Simple Anger Management Tips

Sure, you get angry. Perhaps you're only angry every now and then. Or maybe you're anger is almost always with you.

The good news is, it's not your fault that your anger surfaces. It's all those other people and things around you! You know, the ones who deliberately drive slowly in front of you. The people in line who spend forever getting the right change out of their purse. Your boss at work, who is always picking on you and giving you the toughest jobs and expecting instant results. It doesn't matter what caused you to get angry. It's what to do to get rid of your anger or at least manage your anger that counts.

So what can you do to manage your anger?

1 - Count to ten. S-l-o-w-l-y.

Sure, your parents likely told you to do this when you were younger. And you're not a child any more. Want to know a secret? It works just as well now (maybe even better) than it did when you were younger. If it helps, swear under your breath with each number you count. When you count to 10, make sure you count slowly. It isn't a race. Time your breaths to coincide with your counting and make each breath long and deep. Exactly the same when you exhale your breath.

2 - Take a long, deep breath.

Ideally, more than just one. Taking between 5 and 10 long, deep breaths will start to make a noticeable dent in your anger. Give it a go now, while you're calm and collected. Breathe in. Slowly. Pay attention to the air as it starts to fill your lungs. Then hold your breath for a second or so. Then slowly exhale, again noticing how the air feels as it leaves you. See your anger leave your body on the crest of this air and watch it dissipate into thin air.

3 - Talk about your anger.

Maybe with your local psychiatrist. Or - and this is cheaper - with a friend or work colleague you can trust. Use this talking to express your thoughts. Ideally not at the top of your voice. Quite often your anger is caused by the straw that broke the camel's back and can be triggered by something relatively trivial. Talking about it and maybe not taking yourself too seriously in the process can be a great way to diffuse the anger.

4 - Reward yourself with relaxation time.

Anger often goes hand in hand with stress. Relaxation will help to de-stress you. In turn, that will begin to calm your angry feelings. Or at least reduce the amount of time that you're feeling angry. Relaxation takes many forms. Choose one that's best for you. Whether it's a quiet stroll in a nearby park. Or a long soak in the bath. Or listen to a specially designed relaxation MP3 that you've found on the internet.

5 - Use hypnosis to help manage your anger.

Sedona Method: 3 Questions

The Sedona method is a great way to help release all the pent up feelings that otherwise conspire to bring us down.

At its simplest and easiest, the Sedona method gets you to ask yourself a set of three simple questions.

It's not like a qualification at work. Whatever your answer, it is correct. Questions 1 and 2 are yes/no questions. Question 3 just needs you to answer it. But we'll come onto this shortly.

Before you can start asking yourself the 3 Sedona questions, you have to find a feeling that is causing you some kind of issue. If it's your first time, start simple. The traffic noise outside, the repeats they keep showing on television, those kind of niggles. Don't choose anything too heavy as your first session!

If you can't think of anything else, work on the doubt you've got about whether the Sedona method works for anyone let alone works for you.

Then with the feeling you've homed in on, ask yourself the 3 Sedona method questions:

1. Could I let it go?
2. Would I let it go?
3. When?

Answer each question in turn. Keep with each question until you've answered it, then and only then move on to the next question. And don't be surprised if answering these superficially simple questions takes more than a few seconds. When you first meet the Sedona questions, they look simple. But in reality they're like an iceberg and your conscious mind only sees the tip. That is why the Sedona questions work well.

As I said earlier, questions 1 and 2 need a "yes" or "no" answer. "Maybe" is not an option. Get off the fence, even if you immediately sit back on it!

The third question is a bit more open ended. As with the first two questions, there are no right or wrong answers. Your answer to "when" doesn't matter too much. You could answer "now" or "tomorrow" or "next week" or "never". So long as you answer, it's OK. And all points inbetween.

After that, just work your way through the 3 Sedona method questions as many times as you need to. With the original feeling if it's still there. Or with another feeling if the original one has disappeared. Go with the flow here - you'll know what's right for you. Either as a gut reaction or by instinct.

Through programs such as the Wheelchair Foundation, run all over the world; you may donate wheelchairs to be sent to several countries outside the U.S. The foundation, however, does not deliver individual chairs, but sends bulk containers to different regions.

 

Other organizations such as Chariots of Hope, Direct Relief International, and Hope Alliance International are all non-profit organizations that work internationally and receive donations for used wheelchair equipment. Unlike, the Wheelchair Foundation that ships large orders to general areas, these organizations attempt to cater for individual recipients. In many cases, when you donate a wheelchair, the organization will refurbish the used chair and then ship it to a child or adult in need.

If talking it out doesn’t correct the situation, make an appointment to talk with your supervisor to let him or her know the extent of it and how it’s affecting your job performance. Your boss may choose to take charge and bring correction so that everyone can do their job more effectively.

Poor Management

If unprofessional co-workers are unpleasant to deal with then poor management has to be twice as stressful. The options for dealing with poor managers are more limited, but there is no reason to let poor management style give you stress or anxiety. As will co-workers ignoring the behavior is the first and most preferable option.

If that doesn’t work, then you’ll have to go over their head to someone else and tell them what’s going on. Take down some notes of your complaints and share it with an HR person or whomever is suitable to discuss them with.

There’s no reason to have to put up with that at the workplace when it’s not warranted. It’ll cause too much stress for you and make your job performance slide. Most companies will work with you to resolve the problem.

Increased Workload

Occasionally it is the volume of work itself that causes stress in the workplace. It goes without saying that you should only accept assignments that you have time for, but when there are no options for opting out of additional work it is important to ask for help when you are overwhelmed. Sharing the workload is what teamwork is about. Most companies are happy to foster teamwork between co-workers. If the workload becomes too stressful and no help can be found contact your supervisor and explain that you are overwhelmed. In most instances arrangements can be made to reduce your workload.
